David Zwirner Gallery is set to welcome its third and largest Los Angeles outpost on May 23, according to the New York Times. The gallery, at 606 North Western Avenue, will neighbor the two Zwirner opened last spring, at onetime film-prop houses located at 612 and 616 North Western Avenue. The latest space is being designed by Annabelle Selldorf, who last year replaced Renzo Piano as Zwirner’s architect of choice for its new headquarters in New York’s Chelsea district.

The three-story building will feature an outdoor terrace offering views of the Hollywood sign, and visitors will have the privilege of fighting for one of nine parking spaces. At 15,000 square feet, the gallery will bring Zwirner’s footprint on the booming Melrose Hill block where it is situated to 30,000 square feet. The flagship will be able to accommodate shows both large and small, and allows for two exhibitions to take place at once. Its inaugural show will feature a single work apiece by each of the eighty artists currently on Zwirner’s roster, including Njideka Akunyili Crosby, Michael Armitage, Ruth Asawa, Huma Bhabha, Stan Douglas, Isa Genzken, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, On Kawara, Barbara Kruger, Kerry James Marshall, Emma McIntyre, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Andra Ursuta, and Jordan Wolfson.

“I’ve been a bit of a holdout with Los Angeles just because there is this traditional thinking that Los Angeles collectors like to buy in New York,” Zwirner told the New York Times. “That’s no longer true.” His latest outpost joins those opened in recent months by New York galleries Clearing, James Fuentes, and Sargent’s Daughters, as well as those opened by the London- and Lagos-based Rele, the Mexico City–based Morán Morán, and the Cape Town–based Southern Guild. Besides its LA branches, Zwirner additionally operates several galleries in New York as well as one each in London, Paris, and Hong Kong.
