Jonas Kulikauskas at Cal State LA

Jonas Kulikauskas, Hospital Street No. 5, Outside the former Vilnius Ghetto Hospital, Vilnius, Lithuania, 2021.

Ronald H. Silverman Fine Arts Gallery at Cal State LA will present I Often Forget, a work by Jonas Kulikauskas and curated by Mika Cho, from May 30 to July 7, 2023.

I Often Forget— a photographic exploration of the fragile layers of time in everyday spaces. In a time of rising anti-Semitism, Jonas, using a World War II-era lens on an 8×10″ camera, captured the circadian life of what was once the Vilnius Ghetto. His installations illuminate histories, conflicts, resistance, survival, confusion, and trauma relating to the Holocaust, ethnic nationalism, and cultural desecration.

Jonas Kulikauskas is an interdisciplinary artist inspired by his Lithuanian heritage, family, and faith. One outcome of his Fulbright journey to Lithuania in 2021 is the present exhibit, I Often Forget, which compels us to question and reflect on the human condition.

I Often Forget is partially funded by the Fulbright Program and the Puffin Foundation. Contributors include Dr. Jon Seligman (Archeologist), Dr. Saulius Sužiedelis (Historian), the Vilna Gaon Museum of Jewish History, and the Ronald H. Silverman Fine Arts Gallery, Cal State LA.

 The Exhibition  runs May 30 – July 7, 2023 with a reeception on June 4, 2023, 1-5 PM
