Kaye Freeman, The Seven Winds. Oil paint on canvas 10 x 29 feet.
The Lancaster Museum of Art & History (MOAH) and the Lancaster Museum and Public Art Foundation (LMPAF) invite Antelope Valley residents and visitors to its newest exhibition LA Painting, a survey of contemporary painting in Southern California. The exhibit will be on display August 10th through October 20th, and the opening reception will be August 10 from 4-6 p.m.
LA Painting is a celebration of material, mark-making, and the human experience, boasting group exhibitions by three guest curators, highlights from MOAH’s permanent collection, a site-specific installation by Erika Lizée and solo show by David Allan Peters. The Main Gallery, curated by writer Cooper Johnson, surveys the last five years of contemporary painting in Los Angeles with artwork ranging from socially conscious figurative works to “pure” abstraction. Painter Kaye Freeman teams up with performance artist Amy Kaps, expanding the painting plane to include the entire East Gallery. Laura Hipke and Shane Guffogg, the creators of the Circle of Truth project, display their collaboration with 48 other artists in a painter’s version of the childhood game “telephone” in which each artist creates a painting in response to the painting created by the artist before them.
Highlights from MOAH’s permanent collection will be featured throughout the Museum. The mission of the permanent collection is to celebrate the rich creative culture and history of Southern California by preserving and displaying art made by emerging, local, and established artists significant to the region’s unique cultural perspective.
