‘Tis the season to be Nutcrackered. Okay, even if you’re up to here with the glorious Tchaikovsky score and whosever choreography (this scribe has seen them all, including The Harlem Nutcracker, a ballet that takes place in Harlem and – gulp – put the ‘crack’ in Nutcracker, a South Indian Bharata natyam Nut, and a jazzy rendition set to Duke Ellington‘s interpretation of the Russian score), Sarah Lamb‘s Sugar Plum Fairy makes it look oh-so-simple.
A principal dancer at The Royal Opera House, Lamb, in preparing for the iconic role with its fiendishly difficult steps and glitzy tutu, was captured by celeb photographer Mario Testino‘s creative team in Becoming Plum, a short film for the online channel Mira Mira. Enjoy and happy holidays!
